Hello aspiring nerdy writer! We are thrilled that you are interested in submitting article pitches to the Needlessly Nerdy Entertainment Network. Our mission is to provide our audience with the latest and greatest in all things nerdy, from pop culture to gaming, and everything in between. We are honored that you would consider contributing to our network and want to help you understand the ins and outs of submitting a successful pitch.
General Do's and Don'ts:
- Do make sure your idea is unique and fresh. We want to hear about topics that haven't been covered extensively elsewhere.
- Do familiarize yourself with our website and our voice. Get a feel for the types of content we cover and make sure your pitch is tailored to us.
- Don't pitch us via social media. If you are submitting a pitch for the first time, please use this designated form. If you've written for us before, you can email the editorial team directly with your idea.
- Don't take rejection personally. Sometimes it may not fit with our editorial calendar or simply not resonate with our audience. Keep writing!
- Do assume that if you don't hear from us within a week, it means we have passed on the idea. For timely pitches, we will follow up within a week with a decision.
What We Love to See:
- Fresh retrospective pieces that provide a unique and intriguing perspective on a particular topic.
- Insightful commentary on current properties that goes beyond just "good" or "bad" and dives into the themes, characters, and other elements of a story.
- Interesting connections between content and its source material. We want to hear about the ways that a TV show or movie honors or expands upon the original source material.
- The weird, the wild, and the esoteric. If you have knowledge of a little-known film, game, or comic that deserves more attention, we want to hear about it!
What We Don't Want to See:
- Reviews- Reviews are covered exclusively by our staff writers. If you're interested in becoming part of our team click here.
- Weekly coverage of TV shows- Just as reviews, show coverage is reserved for our staff writers.
- Interviews- You guessed it, only our writers handle interviews and any press event coverage.
What to expect:
- If you hear back from us, we will send you a release form via email for you to fill to return (we know, ugh paperwork).
- But there's good news! Once your pitch gets approved and we've received all the necessary documentation from you, you don't need to reapply to submit a new pitch. Simply email our editorial team directly with your new idea!
- Once you have been approved, the editor will provide you with some requirements for publication, including word count, due date, and possibly some initial guidelines for your post.
- Remember, the Needlessly Nerdy Entertainment Network does not offer payment for submitted articles. We are looking for volunteer professional work or to lift up new/small creators by publishing their works.
We look forward to your pitches and can't wait to see what clever and nerdy ideas you come up with!
